ooh, shiny

Sorry it’s been so long since we’ve posted regularly. We haven’t forgotten you…we’ve just been up to our elbows in work, appliances, meetings, conferences, painting, running to lowes and crashing at the end of the day.

As I mentioned yesterday, we’ve been working primarily on the kitchen recently. And, it’s *so* close to being finished. Whenever I tell people that we’re renovating the kitchen, inevitably it comes up that “well, that’s fun – you get to eat out a lot!” Yes…it’s true. We have been eating out a lot. The problem is, when you’re renovating your kitchen yourself, you can’t just go eat out *at restaurants* every night, because it takes too long and you end up wasting daylight and not being able to work on your house! So….we’ve had enough pizza, fast food, and chinese take out for a lifetime. Or at least a good year.

Plus, not having a kitchen has made me realize even more fully how much I absolutely love to cook. At the end of a stressful day, when nothing goes right, I feel like “Julie” in Julie & Julia when she makes the chocolate cream pie as a form of therapy. She says

“You know what I love about cooking? I love that after a day when nothing is sure and when I say nothing, I mean nothing. You can come home and absolutely know that if you add egg yolks to chocolate and sugar and milk, it will get thick. That’s such a comfort.”

So, for all those reasons, I am beyond ecstatic to introduce you to two new shiny members of our kitchen family.

photo (8)I know, it’s a dishwasher….and, as my little sister would point out, only *old* people like dishwashers. Well…hey, after the nasty old one that smelled a little strange and was sticky? I’m in heaven. It’s amazing. And beautiful. And SHINY. And has so much space. And is incredibly quiet!!

photo (11)And yes, as the observant reader will have noticed, this is not in our house…..sorry, apparently I don’t have pictures of that yet, but I figured some picture is better than none.

And, for the more exciting task of cooking (rather than cleaning up after cooking), we have this new beauty. Cue oohs & awwws.

photo (9)Gorgeous, isn’t it? I think I’m in love.

photo (10)Stay tuned for pictures of the appliances actually located *in* our kitchen. I promise they are there….just not photographed yet.

  1. wow, you have magic middle burners, eh? what a fancy stove. i’m jealous. actually, i’m mostly jealous that you have a full-size oven. remember my curse of tiny ovens? yeah.. i bet you can fit a muffin pan or a pizza stone or anything else reasonably sized in your oven.

    • Yeah. It’s true. It holds pretty much anything. Including the world’s largest turkey. Or maybe a deer.

Which…is pretty much why we bought it. B/c the wall oven we had before? We were originally just going to keep that and the cooktop. Because that would be fine. Except…it was exactly like your microscopic ovens. Totally couldn’t fit a normal cookie sheet in it. Hence the ripping out a cooktop + cabinets + moving a gas line + installing new cabinets + trimming them out to make them bigger + buying new stove. Don’t worry. We’ll have pictures of that fun soon.
